ABC News: Plight of wrongfully convicted and exonerated prisoners explored through opera

The opera “Blind Injustice,” based on the stories of six people freed through the efforts of the Ohio Innocence Project at the University of Cincinnati College of Law (OIP), received national coverage in a news story by ABC News. The story ran February 29, 2024 on stations across the country.

Reporter Perry Rossum interviewed exonerees Rickey Jackson, wrongfully imprisoned for 39 years, and Nancy Smith, wrongfully-imprisoned for 15 years, along with OIP founder and director Mark Godsey for the story.

About the opera, Jackson said, “I want people to understand, emotionally, what it’s like, at least get a glimpse into that world. I want people to know that I’m here; I’m alive. Hopefully, this opera is a testament to that.”
