Public Safety's keys, background checks, lost and found services move offices
On Oct. 1, 2024, the UC Public Safety Department will transition keys, lost and found, and background checks from Edwards Four to Edwards Three.
Also on Oct. 1, cash will no longer be accepted for background checks. Payment will be accepted via departmental/external agency billing forms or credit card.
The move should not impact how students, faculty, staff and the public use these services, just the physical location of these services. Please review the information below for a few reminders for each of the services. Contact publicsafetylocksmiths@uc.edu or 513-556-8206 with questions.
Keys
Please review the University Key Policy, which will be strictly adhered to starting Oct. 1, including the following:
- All keys must be picked up and/or returned to the Keys Office by the key owner or the authorizer.
- Keys held by contractors must be returned to the Keys Office at the end of respective projects.
- Transferring of keys is prohibited.
- Lost or stolen keys must be immediately reported to the Keys Office.
- Key requests and work orders involving keys are only accepted through the Key Order System by the respective department authorizer.
- Ordered keys that are not picked up after 14 days will be recycled.
- Fees for lost, stolen, or unclaimed keys are currently $24 per key, and subject to periodic increases. All associated expenses/fees will be assessed to the responsible department.
Lost and found
- Found items should be turned into Public Safety at Edwards Three.
- For Lost items, persons are required to submit a Lost and Found form.
- Public Safety will return items to owners when claimed, and/or keep the respective claim form on file.
Background checks
UC Public Safety coordinates background checks and fingerprinting services for university departments and the public. Starting Oct. 1, background checks will be cashless. Applicants’ fingerprints are scanned electronically and forwarded to Ohio BCI for a check of the applicant’s state record. Note: If required, prints are also forwarded to the FBI for a national background check. Background check results can take up to 40 business days. Background Checks / Fingerprints appointments can be made online.
