CCM wins two Ohio Valley Emmy Awards in Arts/Entertainment and Sports
Managing Producer Melissa Godoy and Professor Joe Brackman won Emmys at the awards gala on July 19
Two projects lead by UC College-Conservatory of Music faculty and staff won Emmys at the 61st Emmy Awards Gala, presented by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) on July 19.
"The Making of Sweet Charity," a mini documentary by CCM's Production Master Class, won an Emmy for Arts/Entertainment - Short or Long Form Content. "Crosstown Shootout Basketball," a CCM Media Production-led broadcast directed by Professor Joe Brackman, won an Emmy for Director-Sports.
The Making of Sweet Charity
"The Making of Sweet Charity" gives viewers a backstage look at how CCM's September 2023 production of musical rom-com Sweet Charity was designed and run by a team of students from throughout the college's Theatre Design and Production Department. CCM students Kali Ashurst, Baron Leon, Clara Cavins and Claire Bonnette, along with alumni guest artist Joshua E. Gallagher, discuss how they put their education into action while creating this acclaimed production.
The mini documentary was created by UC students as part of the Production Master Class offered by CCM's Media Production Division:
- Camera, Sound, and Editing: Davison Black, Brandon Britton, Ryan Dull, Priya Jenkins, Vinny Meehan, Essaye Tekia
- Additional Lighting: Nick Widmeyer

Crosstown Shootout Basketball
CCM's Media Production program offers experience-based classes in sports media production led by Emmy Award-winning faculty member Joe Brackman. As part of this curriculum, students get hands-on learning experiences producing live multi-camera coverage of UC Athletic events for ESPN+ and ESPNU.
The Cincinnati Crosstown Shootout is an annual college men's basketball game featuring UC Bearcats vs Xavier Musketeers. The broadcast crew featured UC Athletics staff, freelancers and CCM Media Production students directed by Brackman. Though the broadcast is not tied to one class, students gain experience through courses like Intro to Sports Production, Advanced Techniques in Live Sports Production and Producing and Directing for Sports.
Media Production students and alumni who worked on the broadcast include: Paul Neinaber, Kyra Campbell, Hayden Ducker, Alex Perez, Lillian Smith, James Speed, Anna Lucy Surrey, Trey Durr, Seth Gavalier, Nick Henderson-Espinola, Katie McDonie, Justin Pilloff, Jared Fleckner, Nick Goss, Jack Rieth, Gabe Schmidt, Ken Yoder, Jordan Bartow and Jack Bolander.
