UC professor named associate editor of business journal
Journal of Business & Economic Statistics names University of Cincinnati professor Yan Yu its next associate editor
Yan Yu, the Joseph S. Stern Professor of Business Analytics at the University of Cincinnati Carl H. Lindner College of Business, has agreed to serve as Associate Editor of the Journal of Business & Economic Statistics (JBES).
The journal, published quarterly by the American Statistical Association (ASA), is highly-regarded and covers a broad range of topics in the fields of economics and statistics including applied statistical analyses of microeconomic, macroeconomic, forecasting, business, and finance-related topics. Articles include significant results, high-quality methodological content, excellent exposition and a substantive empirical application.
Yu has previously edited leading statistics-focused journals including Journal of the American Statistical Association and Statistica Sinica. “The interdisciplinary nature of JBES makes this opportunity especially exciting,” she says. “We’re going to continue seeing more high-quality work in economics and statistics.”
In the role, Yu will work closely with Professor Jianqing Fan of Princeton University, judging the quality of submitted papers, selecting referees to conduct peer reviews, and making recommendations to the editor-in-chief.
The JBES appointment is hardly Yu’s only major accomplishment this year. This spring she was also selected as a fellow by the ASA. Recognized at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Vancouver last month, Yu’s selection cites her “influential contributions to the theory and practice of semiparametric methods, especially on single-index models and penalized splines; outstanding statistical applications in finance and marketing; notable contributions to the teaching of business statistics and excellence in mentoring; and service to the profession.”
Under ASA bylaws, only one-third of one percent of association members may be selected as fellows. To be nominated, candidates “must have an established reputation and have made outstanding contributions to statistical science,” and the Committee on Fellows evaluates each candidate based on published works, position held with employer, ASA activities, positions in other societies and professional activities.
