Five UC students awarded for co-op work

University of Cincinnati electrical engineering and computer science students recently received prestigious awards for their contributions to their co-op employers.

Patrick Collins, a computer engineering student, won the Herman Schneider Medal for the College of Engineering and Applied Science. As part of the award, Collins will speak at the college’s annual awards ceremony.

The electrical engineering and computer science department’s professional development awards were given to the following students; Cameron Belton for electrical engineering, Mansi Patel for computer science, Michael Santacroce for computer engineering, and Isaac Sundin for electrical engineering technology.

Such work pays off. Santacroce, for example, completed rotations at Kinetic Vision, General Electric, and Intuit, and will graduate with both a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and an MBA. He will start a full-time position with Microsoft after graduation.

UC is the birthplace of experiential learning and created the first co-op program, in which students alternate semesters on campus with semesters in the workplace.
