CNN: UC neurologist discusses epilepsy drugs and risk of birth defects
A CNN story highlighting new research on medication used to control epileptic seizures features comments from David Ficker, MD, professor in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine in the UC College of Medicine and a UC Health neurologist with the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute.
The study looks at anti-epileptic drugs associated with an increased risk of birth defects.
Ficker, who is also on the professional advisory board for the Epilepsy Foundation, says studies support avoiding certain anti-epileptic drugs in pregnancy.

A group of stroke physicians, researchers and industry representatives discussed the current use and future of AI in stroke clinical trial design at the Stroke Treatment Academic Industry Roundtable meeting March 28. Led by the University of Cincinnati’s Joseph Broderick, MD, the researchers published an article in the journal Stroke Sept. 30 summarizing the group’s discussion and recommendations.
