UC, Reds host annual 'Bearcats at the Ballpark'
UC is celebrating its Bicentennial this year while the Reds celebrate 150 years of professional baseball
The University of Cincinnati’s annual outing to Great American Ball Park is Saturday, June 29, when the Cincinnati Reds take on the Chicago Cubs.
Bearcats at the Ballpark presented by Skyline Chili features thousands of UC alumni, students, parents, staff, donors and friends — anyone who is part of the university’s extended family — gathering to enjoy Reds' baseball amid UC-themed festivities throughout the stadium.
This year’s Bearcats at the Ballpark is also a celebration of two of Cincinnati’s most historic institutions.
It’s the UC Bicentennial Edition of this traditional event as UC marks the 200th anniversary of its 1819 founding. It's also the 150th anniversary of the Cincinnati Red Stockings’ 1869 founding as the first professional baseball club.
To commemorate the occasion, the first 1,000 tickets purchased will receive an exclusive acrylic tumbler co-branded with the two landmark anniversaries. The first 20,000 fans entering the stadium also will receive a 150th anniversary Reds bag. UC will host hospitality areas and offer giveaways in the Fan Zone and the Machine Room.
To honor the 10-year anniversary of UC’s 2009 undefeated Big East championship football season, Bearcats great Tony Pike will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The entire 2009 team will be inducted into UC’s James P. Kelly Athletics Hall of Fame this fall.
Game time is 4:10 p.m.; gates open at 2:40 p.m. Discounted game tickets are available to members of the UC community for $15, $25 or $35, a portion of which benefits the university.
