GitHub Education service discontinuing Oct. 1
Due to a recent change in licensing terms, GitHub Education service (github.uc.edu) will be discontinued Oct. 1.
NOTE: This only affects the GitHub Education service.
Students and faculty who wish to use GitHub for academic or instructional purposes after Oct. 1 can switch to the GitHub Student Developer Pack, which is free to use and has all the same features as the current service.
The GitHub Enterprise service will continue to be offered, as the contract terms for that product have not changed. Please note, however, that the Enterprise service requires paid licenses for each account and should only be used for non-academic work.
How do I prepare?
- Current users: move your content to GitHub using the GitHub Student Developer Pack before Oct. 1.
- New users: Create a student account using your UC email by applying for a student developer pack.
- Existing Non-UC users: Already have a GitHub account not associated with UC? Add your UC email address to an existing account.
