CNN: UC students create free health clinic to serve uninsured people
Medical and pharmacy students work with UC faculty to make clinic a reality
Medical students and physician-faculty at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine have opened a free health clinic in northern Hamilton County in hopes of increasing access to health care services for uninsured Tristate residents. The clinic is located in the Healing Center, a non-profit in Springdale, Ohio, and began its first day of operation on July 13. The clinic was created by medical students, who will provide care under the supervision of physicians who on the college’s faculty.
Hensley spearheaded this effort which has also included students and faculty in the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy and communication with faculty and students in the College of Nursing. Faculty advisors include Dr. Megan Rich and Dr. Joseph Kiesler, an associate professor and professor, respectively, both in the UC Department of Family and Community Health. Maria Espinola, assistant professor in the UC Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience, and Kelly Epplen, PharmD, associate dean in the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, also advise the student run free clinic.
