UC Clermont men’s basketball shoots for national tournament
Cougars aim to improve on last season with returning leaders
The Clermont College men’s basketball team has a simple goal for the 2019-2020 season: make the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national tournament. The Cougars are looking to improve on their finish last year, and Head Coach Steve Ellis knows how important developing chemistry will be for the team.
“One of the keys for us will be getting the new players adjusted to playing at the college level and playing together with our returners,” Ellis said.
Clermont does have some solid returning talent and will be led by sophomore point guard Greg Marsh (Western Hills). Marsh was an honorable mention All-American last season and gives the Cougars a strong floor general. Sophomore guard Clay Spivey (Kings) and senior guard/forward Alec Kagan (Oakland University) are two other Cougars to keep an eye on this season.
Among the top USCAA games on the Clermont schedule are bouts with Wright State and Andrews University. A game against Thomas More University, which plays in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, is another big match on the Clermont schedule.
Ellis is excited to see the Cougars take the floor for regular season action and said the team is getting better every day.
“Our team is learning to play together by pushing each other in practice,” he said. “Everyone is pulling for each other to contribute and help us win.”
