The News Record places second in journalism competition
Yearly journalism competition again sees UC place with the best in the state

For the second year in a row, the University of Cincinnati’s independent student-run newspaper, The News Record, finished among the best in the state in the Ohio News Media Association’s yearly journalism competition.
The News Record placed second for Best Collegiate News Website behind Ohio University's The Post.
The News Record placed first in 2019 and was eager to prove to the rest of the schools that UC journalism can consistently produce at a high level.
With lots of competition in Ohio, continually placing at the top says a lot about how great the journalism program is here at UC, UC professor and department head Jeffrey Blevins said.

Blevins said he is proud of the staff at the student newspaper and believes the award speaks volumes about the program.
“It says a lot about the quality and consistency of their work,” Blevins said. “It’s difficult to maintain a high level of quality and consistency in student news media, when the student staff is constantly changing. I’m quite proud of the fact that our program keeps cranking out excellent, well-rounded journalists.”
Now that The News Record has proven itself to the rest of the schools in Ohio, Blevins says that they need to continue to produce at a high level.
“I was really proud to see that we were maintaining a certain level of consistency and high quality,” Blevins said. “With TNR winning first place last year, it really allowed us to plant our flag. Now we have to keep it there.”
