The Boston Globe: Why Ohio's Gov. Mike DeWine postponed primary during COVID-19

UC political science expert shares thoughts on Ohio governor’s approach to coronavirus

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine made the decision to close the polls for the March 17 primary out of concern for public safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. This drastic move, covered by The Boston Globe, was lauded by David Niven, an associate professor of political science at the University of Cincinnati.

"This crisis in some sense has returned him to the original Mike DeWine," Niven said, "who sees the bigger picture and tries to act with a broader coalition behind him.”

The primary has been rescheduled for June 2.
