Fox 47 News: Millions granted for childhood brain cancer research
UC researcher Timothy Phoenix among grant recipients from ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation
UC pediatric brain cancer researcher Timothy Phoenix, an assistant professor in UC’s James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, is among the researchers named to receive funds from the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation.
The fund is distributing $3.5 million in grants, the largest dispersal since its inception.
DIPG, which stands for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, is a tumor found in the bottom part of the brain. These tumors are fast-growing and inoperable. They account for about 10% of all childhood brain tumors but make up 50 percent of childhood brain cancer deaths.
The ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation is the result of the merging to the efforts of two families; the Carrs and the Mosiers, who lost their sons to the disease.
