UC expert says Latino patients often lack access to competent care, resources
Before you can treat an illness, you need an accurate diagnosis.
According to the Alzheimer's Association, missed diagnoses are more common among older Hispanic and African American patients compared to white patients, and Hispanic patients are 1.5 times more likely than white patients to get Alzheimer's disease.
Maria Espinola, PsyD, assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, told Yahoo News that many Latino families lack access to competent care and/or to community resources to accurately diagnose and treat Alzheimer's.
The Alzheimer's Association will offer Spanish language virtual education programs Thursday, Nov. 4 and 11 at 7 p.m. For more information, call 800-272-3900.
