Local 12, 55KRC highlight UC's epilepsy Learning Health System

The University of Cincinnati Gardner Neuroscience Institute is transforming into a Learning Health System (LHS), a new approach to medical research, clinical care and education.

In a LHS, the health care organization decides to learn from every single data point they can gather about their patient population. The approach is being piloted by UCGNI's Epilepsy Center.

David M. Ficker, MD, Anne Paul and patient Scott Badzik spoke with Local 12's Liz Bonis about the work of the Learning Health System, and the story was additionally aired by dozens of Local 12's sister stations in at least 20 states across the country. Ficker also joined 55KRC's Simply Medicine radio show and podcast to discuss the initiative.

"Our goal in epilepsy is to have more patients with seizure freedom or seizure control; it's sort of a key outcome," said Paul, director of UC Health's Learning Health System.
