WCPO: Blink muralist creates ‘love letter’ for Ukraine
UC faculty and students create art that reflects Ukrainian cultural in the throes of war
Cincinnati’s art and lights festival, Blink 2022, drew almost a million onlookers to downtown Cincinnati, October 14-16, to experience the mix of art and light as a joyous spectacle.
Muralist Jenny Ustick, on faculty at the University of Cincinnati School of Design, was among the artists chosen to participate. Ustick’s mural highlighted the beauty of the Ukraine with a nod to the reality of the current Russian invasion. The project, visible on the side of The Dunlap Café, was a collaboration between Ustick and the Cincinnati Kharkiv Sister Cities Partnership and Cincy for Ukraine, both of which raise money for relief efforts.
The mural comes to life with the use of a digital projector. That too, was made possible due to Sean Hafer’s class at the University of Cincinnati.
Ustick told WCPO that the mural was made possible because of the hard work of the students, and the partnership with the two Ukrainian organizations.
