Urgent need for blood donors during summer months
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is calling on the Tri-State community to make a lifesaving blood or platelet donation to help local patients in need during the critical summer months. Hoxworth systems and centers were also down last Friday morning due to the CrowdStrike outages, further compounding the urgent need at this time.
Hoxworth is urgently calling on all donors, especially those with O-, O+ blood types and platelets. Throughout July, all donors will receive a limited-edition Cincinnati Reds Hawaiian Shirt. Additionally, Hoxworth's Premier Donor Club loyalty program offers reward points for e-gift cards with every donation. Now through July 31, platelet donors will receive double points.
“There is an urgent need for blood at this time, especially those with type O (positive and negative) and platelet donors,” says David Oh, MD, co-chair & CEO, Hoxworth Blood Center. “We often see an uptick in traumas and other accidents during the summer months, which means we need to be prepared and maintain a healthy blood supply. We’re calling on our local community to come out and donate, so we can ensure local patients have the blood they need.”
Appointments are highly encouraged. Donors can schedule by calling 513-451-0910 or by scheduling online at www.hoxworth.org.
