Lindner master’s programs to be test optional beginning fall 2025
Test optional graduate programs improve student outcomes, increase enrollment
Beginning with the fall 2025 admissions cycle, all of Carl H. Lindner College of Business’ master’s degree programs will feature a test-optional application review process.
In 2020, the Lindner MBA and specialized master’s programs in finance, marketing, accounting, applied economics and human resources shifted to a test-optional policy to accommodate disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic. Since this policy’s implementation, these programs have seen both increased enrollment and greater student success.

“We made the change to using a test optional approach beginning in the fall 2025 semester to take a more inclusive approach and increase pathways into our Lindner graduate programs,” said Andrew Harrison, PhD, associate dean of graduate programs and associate professor of information systems. “Following trials in the wake of the pandemic, we found that using a more holistic approach for evaluating admissions criteria, rather than relying solely on test scores, can increase enrollment while improving outcomes for students.”
For the college’s Master of Science in information systems and business analytics degree programs, this new policy represents a three-year pilot for both in-person and online modalities.
While some graduate programs require students to complete either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) as part of the admissions process, applications for Lindner's portfolio of specialized master’s programs are reviewed holistically. Prospective students’ overall application package is considered during the review process. This may include applicant's undergraduate GPA, essay responses, letters of recommendation, resume and video interviews.
Students will still have the option to submit test scores at their own discretion. If submitted, scores will be reviewed alongside other application materials.
The priority deadline for all specialized master’s programs for fall 2025 is Dec. 1. For prospective MBA students, the early action deadline is Oct. 15.
