CCM Chamber Choir celebrates composer Eriks Ešenvalds in April 26 concert
The performance features the music of Latvia; tickets on sale now
UC College-Conservatory of Music welcomes composer Ēriks Ešenvalds for a concert celebrating his works and the music of Latvia at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 at Cincinnati's Knox Presbyterian Church. Featuring the CCM Chamber Choir, the performance marks the finale of CCM's ticketed collegiate concert series for 2024-25.
Led by Joe Miller, Director and Professor of Choral Studies at CCM, the performance features works by Ešenvalds and other Alfrēds Kalniņš, Uģis Prauliņš, Pēteris Vasks and Juris Karlsons. The performance also showcases graduate assistant conductors Rachel Feldman and Sergey Tkachenko.
Ēriks Ešenvalds is one of the most sought-after composers working today, with a busy commission schedule and performances of his music heard on every continent. He has won multiple awards for his work, including the Latvian Grand Music Award three times (2005, 2007, 2015). The International Rostrum of Composers awarded him first prize in 2006 for his work The Legend of the Walled-in Woman. He was “The Year’s New-Composer Discovery” of the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2010. In 2018 he was bestowed Officer in the Order of the Three Stars, the highest state decoration of his home country Latvia, for merits in the field of culture.
