Hoxworth blood recipient, Super Cohen, celebrates 13th birthday with giveback blood drive
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, invites the community to celebrate a true superhero, Cohen Bramlee, at Super Cohen’s Birthday Blood Drive this Friday, Sept. 19.
Cohen is a longtime Hoxworth blood recipient whose story has inspired many. He was the first in the world to be diagnosed with his rare immune system disorder. One of the most challenging aspects of this condition is his inability to properly produce the cells needed for blood clotting, making frequent blood transfusions from Hoxworth donors critical to his survival.
In his 13 years, Cohen has faced more medical challenges than most see in a lifetime. He has endured countless tests and procedures, spent hundreds of nights at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, received a bone marrow transplant and relies on intravenous nutrition. From emergency flights to MRIs, Cohen has weathered every storm with bravery, patience and endurance.
To honor Cohen’s strength and give back, the Bramlee family is committed to replacing all the blood Cohen has used during his treatment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Each year, they host a blood drive around his birthday to support Hoxworth Blood Center.
This year is extra special — Cohen becomes a teenager, turning 13, and for the first time, he plans to be there in person.
