Ohio to see Senate showdown
UC professor tells WVXU the 2026 race has national implications
WVXU public radio turned to a political expert at the University of Cincinnati to explain the significance of Democrat Sherrod Brown's challenge of U.S. Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio in the 2026 election.
Brown is a three-term U.S. senator who was unseated in 2024 by Republican Bernie Moreno in the most expensive Senate contest in the country, WVXU reported.
The coming race could draw the same national attention, UC College of Arts and Sciences Professor David Niven told WVXU. He teaches political science in UC's School of Public and International Affairs.
“Ohio was used to being at the center of presidential races for a long time,’’ Niven said. “That’s no longer the case. But it can be the most important Senate race in the country.”
