Requesting Exceptions or Waivers
Students in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), or School of Information Technology (SoIT) may encounter circumstances that require an exception or waiver from the Mandatory Co-op Program policies. The Professional Standards Review Committee (PSRC) reviews such requests through an established process.
Policy Overview
- Program Policies: All students must adhere to the policies outlined in the Co-op Student Handbook (DAAP, CEAS, IT) and University regulations.
 - Request Requirement: Any deviation from these policies requires formal approval via the PSRC petition process.
 - Consequences: Failure to follow this process may result in sanctions.

Requesting Exceptions or Waivers
Follow these steps to submit a request:
- Review Policies: Read the policy summary above and the full details in the Co-op Student Handbook (DAAP, CEAS, IT).
 - Consult Your Co-op Advisor: Discuss your situation with your Faculty Co-op Advisor for guidance.
 - Complete the Petition: Submit the PSRC Student Petition for Co-op Program Exception or Waiver (requires Microsoft Office 365 login).
 - Provide Documentation: Include relevant documentation (e.g., medical or military records) to support your request. Be as detailed as possible to ensure a prompt decision.

What Happens Next?
- Confirmation: You’ll receive an email confirming receipt of your petition, including details of the PSRC meeting where your request will be reviewed.
 - Attendance: Attendance at the meeting is optional but recommended for complex cases requiring further discussion.
 - Additional Information: The PSRC or your co-op faculty advisor may request additional documentation.
 - Decision Timeline: The PSRC typically meets twice per term. You’ll be notified of the decision via email.
 - Next Steps: Work with your co-op faculty advisor to understand how the decision impacts your participation in the co-op program.
