Eligibility 

To be considered for the program, a student must:

  • Be a student in UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science
  • Be in good standing with their home college
  • Have approval from their co-op advisor and/or academic advisor
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Have a valid passport

Breyson McKee, an Aerospace Engineering student in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, participated in a Global Research Lab at the University of Bordeaux's Evering Institute in Bordeaux, France. "Participating in the Global Research Labs program in Bordeaux has been a really transformative experience for both my personal and professional growth. Immersed in an international research environment, I learned to adapt quickly, collaborate across cultures, and contribute meaningfully to international engineering projects. This opportunity reinforced my technical foundation, challenged my problem-solving skills, and gave me greater confidence in pursuing a global career. Just as importantly, it allowed me to build lasting friendships and gain perspective from people with very different backgrounds. Beyond the research, it was an incredibly fun and memorable experience that I'll always look back on."

Oriana Hernandez Alvarado, a computer science student at the College of Engineering and Applied Science, participated in a Global Research Lab at the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao, Spain. Reflecting on the experience, Alvarado shared, ”In the EHU research Lab I was able to strengthen my skills in data analysis and collaboration while learning to adapt to a new academic and cultural environment. This experience broadened my perspective on international research and gave me greater confidence in pursuing future opportunities in technology and education. Being part of the STEM research Team, I learned a lot on time management, organizational skills and research methods as well as the use of software like R and Matlab for data analysis.”
